Metin 1

Much of the early research on plastic pollution focused on the oceans, where floating debris is highly visible. More recently, scientists have turned their attention to rivers and lakes, which not only receive plastic waste directly but also act as pathways that carry it to the sea. A particular concern is microplastics, fragments smaller than a few millimetres in length. Some are manufactured at this size for use in certain industrial and cleaning products, while many more are produced when larger items break down under the influence of sunlight and physical wear. Synthetic clothing is another important source, since washing releases tiny fibres that can pass through wastewater treatment plants. Once in freshwater, microplastics do not behave in a single, predictable way. Lighter particles may float and travel long distances, whereas denser ones sink and accumulate in sediments, where they may remain for many years. Small organisms at the base of the food chain can mistake the particles for food, and there is concern that this may reduce their growth or transfer attached pollutants to animals that feed on them. However, researchers emphasise that many questions remain unanswered. Different studies use different methods for collecting and counting particles, which makes it difficult to compare results or to establish how concentrations are changing over time. Furthermore, the effects observed in laboratory experiments often involve concentrations much higher than those found in nature. Developing standard methods is therefore seen as an essential step before firm conclusions about risks can be drawn.

Soru 1

What is the main idea of the passage?

  1. A Microplastics in rivers and lakes have been proved to cause serious and lasting harm to almost every animal living in freshwater.
  2. B Wastewater treatment plants are the main source of the microplastics that eventually reach the sea through rivers and lakes.
  3. C Research on plastic pollution should concentrate on the oceans rather than on freshwater.
  4. D Freshwater microplastics come from many sources and may be harmful, but better standardised research is needed.
  5. E Synthetic clothing is the only significant source of microplastics in rivers.

  1. A build up
  2. B break down
  3. C spread out
  4. D dissolve
  5. E move away
Cevabı ve çözümü göster

Doğru cevap: A

B şıkkındaki 'break down' parçada büyük plastiklerin parçalanması için kullanılan bir ifadedir ve öğrenciyi yanıltmaya yöneliktir. C şıkkı ise birikmenin tersi olan dağılmayı anlatır.

Metin 2

In recent decades, researchers have paid careful attention to how seasonal changes affect animal populations, especially those that migrate long distances. During spring, many species tend to alter their diet in order to develop the physical strength required for migration or reproduction. This shift often includes a marked increase in protein consumption, since protein plays a crucial role in muscle production and overall energy levels. Scientists have observed that the reason behind such dietary adjustments is closely linked to environmental stress; animals that fail to adapt quickly may struggle to transport themselves efficiently across vast territories. Interestingly, these physiological changes can also influence behavioral patterns, including what some biologists loosely describe as 'feelings' of urgency or restlessness before major seasonal transitions. Populations living in areas with limited food resources are particularly affected, as they must compete more intensely for nutrients. At times, this competition becomes so severe that entire groups migrate earlier than usual, illustrating how deeply interconnected diet, stress, and survival truly are in the natural world.

Soru 5

What is the passage mainly about?

  1. A The role of protein production in muscle building
  2. B How seasonal dietary changes help animals cope with migration-related stress
  3. C The reasons why animals feel restless in spring
  4. D The competition among animal populations for food resources
  5. E The impact of careful research methods on wildlife biology
Cevabı ve çözümü göster

Doğru cevap: B

Metin, hayvanların mevsimsel beslenme değişikliklerinin göç sürecindeki stresle nasıl başa çıkmalarına yardımcı olduğunu anlatmaktadır. Diğer şıklar metindeki detaylardan biridir ama ana fikri kapsamaz.

Soru 6

According to the passage, why do many animals increase protein consumption in spring?

  1. A To reduce competition for food resources
  2. B To adapt to limited food resources in their habitat
  3. C To transport themselves across shorter distances
  4. D To decrease stress levels caused by environmental changes
  5. E To develop the physical strength needed for migration or reproduction
Cevabı ve çözümü göster

Doğru cevap: E

Metin 3

Since ancient times, milk has been regarded as a vital source of nutrition that helps the human body maintain healthy bone and muscle levels throughout life. Modern research shows that people who continue to drink milk regularly, even after leaving school, often enjoy a higher quality of life at every level of adulthood. This is particularly true for workers whose physically demanding jobs place additional strain on the body, sometimes leading to fatigue or reduced bile production, which can affect digestion. Interestingly, studies suggest that successful long-term health outcomes are not only linked to diet but also to the balance between traditional habits and the demands of a digital lifestyle, where people move less than they did decades ago. Just as a fresh spring provides clean water, a balanced diet including milk provides essential benefits that keep the body functioning properly. Experts note that steps taken early in life, such as maintaining good nutrition at school age, can have long-lasting effects, helping individuals live longer, healthier lives well into old age.

Soru 9

What is the main idea of the passage?

  1. A Milk is only beneficial for children at school age.
  2. B Digital lifestyles are the primary cause of poor health in adulthood.
  3. C Workers with physically demanding jobs cannot benefit from a good diet.
  4. D Ancient civilizations discovered the health benefits of milk before modern science did.
  5. E The overall quality and length of life can be enhanced by maintaining good nutritional habits, such as drinking milk, throughout different stages of life.
